IRIS NEKEMAN
My journey into sustainable investing and non-traditional trading started at the age of 18. Since then I've worked in many grassroots projects, social enterprises, bioregional communities as well as high-stake boardrooms of corporates and NGO's.
At the age of 21, I started investing my savings in sustainable options, because I had learned about the banking system and just didn't really trust them that much anymore with my savings.
While earning degrees in Organizational Science and Strategic Leadership toward Sustainability, I also studied in Theory U, Leadership vs Stewardship, digital and community currencies, alternative trading systems and Non-Violent Communication.
In 2022, I walked away from corporate consulting to co-found 2 bioregional initiatives in the Netherlands, after which I joined Los Higuerones—a community hub in Costa Rica dedicated to restoring cultural and ecological resilience. To make this life work, I had to rethink money and trading myself.
Through research, trial and error, and hands-on co-creating a community currency models at Los Higuerones, I designed a very resilient diversified, MOSTLY PASSIVE, income model.
This model now funds my life in Costa Rica, The Netherlands and California, my impact work for Los Higuerones and other initiatives and my gift-based coaching services, all without ever launching a multi-figure online offer.
